Speak No Evil

Featuring great sense of escalating slow-burn dread, Speak No Evil is a really effective horror film about a couple who slowly realize that something is off with their new friends. Writer/director Christian Tafdrup does a great job of bringing the film a compelling sense of tension and unease, which is especially impressive given the extent to which the film is clearly not in a rush; it plays out as more of a character drama for the bulk of its running time. This patience pays off in the film’s final stretch, which is all the more impactful thanks to the time we’ve spent getting to know the characters.
