Incredible But True

About a couple whose new house has an interesting feature in the basement, Incredible But True is a delightfully odd film from delightfully odd filmmaker Quentin Dupieux. The thing about Dupieux’s movies is that, under a lesser filmmaker, their intense quirkiness could easily come off as overbearing. But Dupieux wisely has all of his actors play the absurdity completely straight, which grounds the film (as much as a movie this off-the-wall can be grounded) and actually makes it so much funnier. Dupieux also knows how to leave the audience wanting more; the film taps out at just under 70 minutes without credits, which is the perfect length for a movie like this.
