The Killer

A movie about a clinical, meticulous hitman actually seems like the perfect material for David Fincher, who’s famous for his clinical, meticulous directorial style. And, yeah. It’s a match, that’s for sure. Fincher’s highly composed visuals works perfectly for this material; it’s also quite possibly the most propulsive thing he’s ever directed, with the titular killer effectively being a man on a mission for the duration of the film’s runtime (the movie is all hitmanin’ all the time, with basically no downtime). There’s something kind of fascinating about seeing the way the man problem-solves his way through the various obstacles between him and his goal. He’s played by Michael Fassbender, whose presence here is a definite reminder that his steely charisma has been missed over the last few years.
