Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour
Directed by Sam Wrench, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour follows the iconic singer as she works her way through many of her most famous songs within the context of a larger-than-life production. It’s clear right from the get-go that Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has been designed to appeal solely to Swift’s most ardent fans, as the picture, which runs almost three punishing hours (!), is lacking the sort of streamlined atmosphere that one has come to generally associate with concert movies – with Wrench instead offering up a palpably indulgent affair that contains few attributes designed to capture the attention of (and win over) Swift neophytes. And while the film admittedly does contain a handful of watchable stretches, mostly involving Swift’s agreeable jaunts into pop music, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour‘s second-half emphasis on Swift’s tiresome, repetitive folk-music ensures that one’s interest takes a serious nosedive long before the whole thing mercifully concludes – thus confirming the movie’s place as a hopelessly unfocused mess in desperate need of some aggressive streamlining.
