Only the River Flows

About a cop whose life starts to unravel while trying to solve a string of murders, this was a bit of a slog. Though Shujun Wei’s direction is generally decent enough, his emphasis on long takes with very little camerawork and uneventful procedural minutia (not to mention the film’s glacial pacing) makes it a bit of a tough sit. The movie does try to build up the main character a bit so he’s not just a standard-order gritty detective, but the whole thing is just way too plodding to particularly make an impact.
