One Fine Day

An affable romcom, One Fine Day follows two busy workaholics (George Clooney’s Jack Taylor and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Melanie Parker) as they unexpectedly find themselves spending more and more time together over the course of a particularly eventful 24 hours. It’s clear almost immediately that One Fine Day‘s success is due almost entirely to the charisma of its stars, as both Clooney and Pfeiffer deliver such winning work that it becomes easy enough to overlook some of the more hackneyed elements within Terrel Seltzer and Ellen Simon’s screenplay – with the strong performances made all-the-more potent by the palpable chemistry between the two actors. The somewhat episodic bent of the picture’s narrative does pave the way for an erratic midsection, admittedly, although filmmaker Michael Hoffman does a nice job of keeping the pace quick and the tone light – which ultimately does secure One Fine Day‘s place as a perfectly watchable little romantic comedy.
