Next Door

Next Door is mostly fun, though its constrained premise — a man wakes up in his neighbour’s apartment with no memory of how he got there and finds a dead body — does occasionally feel stretched a bit thin. The film basically never leaves the apartment, and while director Yeom Ji-ho manages to wring a decent amount of tension out of such a small-scale setting, the movie sometimes feels like it’s pushing it even at a relatively brief 92 minutes. Still, it features a great central performance from Oh Dong-min and it’s generally entertaining enough, even if it’s hard not to wonder whether it would have worked better as a short.
