Holiday in the Wild

Holiday in the Wild casts Kristin Davis as Kate Conrad, a wealthy New Yorker who, after being suddenly dumped by her husband, decides to spend some time at an African elephant sanctuary – where she meets and slowly falls for a rugged conservationist/pilot (Rob Lowe’s Derek). Filmmaker Ernie Barbarash delivers a mostly watchable yet entirely forgettable romcom that benefits from Davis and Lowe’s charismatic work, as the movie is, for the most part, saddled with an overly deliberate pace and a continuing emphasis on often eye-rollingly conventional plot twists and devices. There is, as such, never a point at which one is wholeheartedly drawn in the characters’ ongoing exploits, and although the elephant sanctuary angle is admittedly rather novel (albeit in a sanitized, infomercial type of way), Holiday in the Wild ultimately can’t help but come off as a fairly lackluster little romance.
