A Very Brady Sequel

Directed by Arlene Sanford, A Very Brady Sequel details the turmoil that ensues after Carol’s (Shelley Long) first husband (Tim Matheson’s Roy Martin) mysteriously appears after being missing for several years. Filmmaker Sanford, armed with a script by Harry Elfont, Deborah Kaplan, James Berg and Stan Zimmerman, delivers a passable sequel that ultimately falls right in line with its equally hit-and-miss predecessor, as A Very Brady Sequel progresses through an erratically-paced narrative that benefits from its affable performances and smattering of amusing, laugh-out-loud funny interludes – with, in terms of the latter, the best and most obvious example of the latter an ongoing subplot involving Jan’s (Jennifer Elise Cox) efforts at convincing everyone she has a boyfriend named George Glass. And while the pervasively agreeable atmosphere carries the movie through its 89 minute runtime, A Very Brady Sequel‘s general lack of momentum ensures that it rarely, if ever, becomes as involving or engrossing as one might’ve anticipated – which does, in the final analysis, cement its place as a decent-enough endeavor that’s as forgettable as it is watchable.
