Nyad

About Diana Nyad’s attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida in her 60s (after having failed at it in her 20s), Nyad is fine. It’s an inspirational sports movie, and yeah, it definitely does all the inspirational sports movie stuff that you’d expect. Annette Bening is very good in the main role, and it’s nice seeing Jodie Foster again (though it’s perplexing that she chose this movie, of all things, to be one of her few performances of late), but I think it’s possible that long distance swimming is inherently less cinematically interesting than other sports — the movie is well made, but it’s just never all that engaging.
