Find Me Falling
Directed by Stelana Kliris, Find Me Falling follows a musician (Harry Connick Jr.’s John Allman) decides to temporarily move to Cyprus after his latest album is poorly received – with the narrative detailing John’s ongoing encounters with various townspeople, including a former lover named Sia (Agni Scott). It’s gentle, subdued subject matter that’s employed to mostly watchable effect by Kliris, as the filmmaker, armed with her own screenplay, delivers a deliberately-paced yet engaging drama that benefits from its scenic atmosphere and agreeable lead performance – with Connick Jr.’s strong work compensating for a narrative that’s occasionally just a little too lackadaisical for its own good. (And it doesn’t hurt, either, that Connick Jr. shares a palpable sense of chemistry with his love interest, Scott’s Sia.) The presence of a few agreeably melodramatic plot developments, including a not-terribly-surprising reveal involving Sia and her daughter, provides the movie with periodic jolts of energy, and while the 94 minute runtime rarely feels as streamlined as it could (and should) be, Find Me Following builds towards a satisfying final stretch that confirms its place as a decent-enough, better-than-most-Netflix-originals endeavor.
