Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget

About the chickens from the original Chicken Run getting into more Chicken Runnin’ shenanigans revolving around a high-tech chicken nugget factory, this was a thoroughly delightful sequel. The film is extremely frenetic, getting the plot into motion pretty quickly, and then essentially consisting of one set-piece after another; it would have felt like too much under a lesser filmmaker, but director Sam Fell brings that Aardman touch and really crams the film with endearing characters and funny gags. And of course, the movie looks great, with Aardman’s usual stop motion style being just as engaging to look at as ever. The whole thing feels very slight, but it’s such a good time at the movies that it barely matters.
