A Witness Out of the Blue

About a cop investigating the murder of a member of a gang of jewel thieves, nothing about A Witness Out of the Blue is “bad” per se; it’s solidly made all around. But it’s brutally dull. I’m really not sure how you take a movie involving a jewel heist, double crosses, corrupt cops, and a murder where the sole witness is a parrot (!), and then make it so thoroughly tedious. But A Witness Out of the Blue manages it. The vaguely convoluted plot is just never interesting, and while the characters and performances are decent enough, the film’s rote mystery and leaden pacing makes it tough to sit through. It does have the occasional action set-piece, at least; this might have livened things up, but like pretty much everything else here, the action is competent but bland.

*1/2 out of ****
