Stolen Kingdom

Directed by Joshua Bailey, Stolen Kingdom details the illicit world of urban exploring and follows several individuals as they attempt to tour the backstage (and abandoned) areas within Disney’s various parks. It’s certainly compelling subject matter that is, for the most part, utilized to engrossing effect by Bailey, as the filmmaker does a terrific job of augmenting the proceedings with fascinating, eye-opening behind-the-scenes Disney World footage – with this particularly true of a completely captivating stretch involving Epcot’s long-defunct Horizons dark-ride attraction. And while the movie admittedly loses some momentum in a second half focused on the less-than-enthralling exploits of Patrick Spikes, a former Disney employee charged with stealing a myriad of backstage items, Stolen Kingdom predominantly comes off as a stirring documentary that shines a light on a decidedly under-the-radar subculture.
