Bleed With Me
Thunderously dull and bafflingly pointless, Bleed With Me is a slow-burn horror film about a young woman who goes to a remote cabin with a coworker and her boyfriend; it quickly becomes apparent that something is off between the three. I’m not sure if the term “slow-burn” even applies here — or at the very least, it’s 99.9% slow, 0.1% burn. The extent to which nothing happens in this film is actually kind of impressive, like some kind of misguided experiment to see if it’s possible to make a movie without the presence of interesting characters, situations, or scenes. A film like this really relies on a strong sense of style to create an atmosphere of dread and the aforementioned (and sadly lacking) burn. But the thoroughly style-free cinematography by RenĂ© Arseneau absolutely doesn’t perform this function, nor does Amelia Moses’s competent but dispiritingly bland direction. Then there’s the finale, and hey — something finally happened! But it’s so thoroughly telegraphed and obvious that it doesn’t have even a fraction of the intended impact.
