Various Educational DVDs from Disney

Growing Up with Winnie the Pooh: A Great Day of Discovery (March 25/05)

A Great Day of Discovery features a quartet of shorts from The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, a television show that's at least a decade old. Though it's being marketed as some kind of an educational disc for small children, there's really nothing being taught here. Nevertheless, kids will undoubtedly enjoy watching these admittedly entertaining episodes. Bonus features are limited to a sing-along entitled - appropriately enough - Winnie the Pooh and game called "Cheer Up Eeyore." There are also several Disney Sneak Peeks contained within the disc's contents.

Growing Up with Winnie the Pooh: Friends Forever (March 25/05)

Friends Forever collects four shorts featuring everyone's favorite bear, Winnie the Pooh. Like the above disc, there's no real educational content here - though it does seem as though kids will get a kick out of the disc's content (fans, on the other hand, would probably be well advised to wait for a more grown-up release). In terms of bonus features, the DVD includes a sing-along (Heffalumps and Woozles) and a game ("Piglet's Balloon Game"). Of course, several Disney Sneak Peeks are also included.

Growing Up with Winnie the Pooh: It's Playtime with Pooh (May 13/06)

As expected, Growing Up with Winnie the Pooh: It's Playtime with Pooh collects four shorts from the television show The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. They are: April Pooh (in which Pooh and friends must contend with a series of April Fools pranks), The Good, The Bad, and The Tigger (an old West tale that casts Piglet as a Sheriff that must capture a pair of wanted criminals), Bubble Trouble (Pooh gets trapped inside a bubble and bounces throughout the Hundred Acre Wood), and What's the Score, Pooh (which casts Pooh as a determined referee). The disc also includes a pair of games (Game Time and Soccer Playtime with Pooh Game) and a series of sneak peeks (Cars, Brother Bear, Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, The Little Mermaid, and more).

Growing Up with Winnie the Pooh: Love & Friendship (May 13/06)

Growing Up with Winnie the Pooh: Love & Friendship contains four shorts from The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, including: A Very, Very Large Animal (Piglet gets a taste of bigness after his friends build him a pair of stilts), No Rabbit's a Fortress (Rabbit learns that he should always trust his friends), Stripes (Tigger faces an identity crisis after his stripes wash off), and Tigger's Shoes (Piglet comes up with a plan to stop Tigger's ceaseless bouncing). The disc also includes Music Time ("Up Down Touch the Ground" Sing Along Song) and Game Time (Hundred Acre Wood Heart Game), along with a series of sneak peeks (Cars, Brother Bear, Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, The Little Mermaid, and more).

Mickey's Reading and Math Fun (March 25/05)

As expected, Mickey's Reading and Math Fun teaches kids about the basics of reading and arithmatic, using colorful imagery and easy-to-understand terms. The DVD also includes a half hour Disney short involving Mickey's trip up the beanstalk, a classic piece of animation that's easily the highlight of the disc. The disc includes a feature that allows the program to be viewed either with interactive interruptions or without. The disc's sole bonus feature is "Mickey's Magical Beans Game," along with several Disney Sneak Peeks.

Mickey's Seeing the World (March 25/05)

The central attraction here is a 59-minute long feature that intersperses a cartoon involving Mickey's trip around the world with educational features designed to teach kids about various countries and cultures. The short film, running around 15-minutes, can also be viewed by itself at the end of the feature (it's actually not bad, so older viewers would be well advised to skip directly to this portion of the DVD). The disc includes a feature that allows the program to be viewed either with interactive interruptions or without. Supplemental features are limited to a game called "Sorcerer's World Challenge," along with the requisite Disney Sneak Peeks.

Winnie the Pooh: Shapes and Sizes (August 27/06)

Winnie the Pooh: Shapes and Sizes offers small children lessons in shapes and sizes (obviously) within the context of a new Winnie the Pooh story, in which Pooh must assist Rabbit in finding various boxes, baskets, and crates to use for organizational purposes. The short film - running about a half hour - also contains messages about responsibility and friendship, and generally has the feel of a typical Winnie the Pooh adventure. In addition to the feature, the disc also includes a game that allows viewers to put into practice the things they've learned and also a whole host of expected previews for other Disney DVDs (including Brother Bear 2, Meet the Robinsons, The Fox and the Hound: 25th Anniversary Edition, and more).

Winnie the Pooh: Wonderful Word Adventure (August 27/06)

Like Winnie the Pooh: Shapes and Sizes, Winnie the Pooh: Wonderful Word Adventure offers up a new Winnie the Pooh story within the guise of eductional content. This time around, Pooh and the gang must participate in a series of elaborate races that Owl has organized. Along the way, the viewer is encouraged to play along and broaden their vocabulary through fun word associations. The disc also includes a game involving Tigger's efforts to make his way to a party, and a series of bonus promotional spots (The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition, Little Einsteins: Mission Celebration!, Disney Princess: Enchanted Tales - A Kingdom of Kindness, etc).
